PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT OF A 3G ARTIFICIAL GRASS  PITCH
HODGE HOUSE,
NELSON

We all know Hodge House sports field well:
  • It' s a large, easily accessible, open space for outdoor activity - which is no longer used;
  • It' s a place where you need to wear your wellies, even in the summer;
  • There' s a problem with dog mess; and
  • When there' s no activity in the community centre later in the evening and over night, the area at the back of the building is a good hiding place for those who don' t want to be seen - resulting in littering and anti- social behaviour.

Bradley Big Local Community Land Trust wants to bring modern, affordable, year round football and sports facilities to the area.  We' ve looked at what's available locally, how easy it is to get to it, how much it costs and availability. Most local facilities are expensive, over- subscribed and/ or not available for community groups. That's where our proposal is different:

Our 3G pitch will be built, owned and run by YOU, the Bradley community.

WHAT FACILITIES DO WE WANT TO BUILD?

Our plans are to:
  • Remove the existing goalposts
  • Build a full size 11-a-side artificial grass pitch
  • Full security fencing
  • Floodlighting which is designed to limit and control light spillage to the neighbouring area
  • Build suitable changing facilities, probably as an extension to the community centre
  • Extend the car park.

WHAT WILL ALL THIS LOOK LIKE?

Our plans are still in the early stages and we have a lot of work to do engaging with a wide range of community members: residents, football and sports clubs, schools and other potential users. This will be a fully inclusive community facility, built to community specifications. To give you an idea, though, of what the new 3 G pitch might look like and the area it will cover, we've asked a couple of local architects, Andrew Parker and ANW, to produce  professional drawings and an artist's impression.  These are shown here along with some photos of the area as it is now.

WILL THERE BE CHANGES TO THE COMMUNITY CENTRE?
Hodge House Community Centre will be a key part of the new development and we want to secure investment into the building to refurbish and modernise it.  We expect that the best way to provide changing rooms for the 3G pitch will be to build an extension and we know that we'll be required to provide additional car parking.  We've decided, therefore, to focus on the centre as a hub for leisure and wellbeing and include it in the 3G pitch project to invest and develop the area as a whole.

MONEY MATTERS!
The development we' re planning is expected to cost in the region of £1 million. We've a long way to go to demonstrate that the 3G pitch project is viable and sustainable, but we know that if we all work together we can have a really robust business plan. As of now, BBL Community Land Trust has put money aside from the sale of the houses on Beech Street, Nelson, to fund the initial development work. Bradley Big Local Partnership has given us a conditional offer of grant funding and we're in talks with Lancashire County Football Association and The Football Foundation about applications for large scale capital grants.
It' s vital for us that we work with YOU - residents, football clubs, sports clubs stakeholders and other interested parties in the Bradley community and beyond to make this project a reality.  We're still looking for backing from local supporters and potential users in order to demonstrate that the scheme is viable and sustainable.  If you are part of a football club or league, a local school or part of an organisation looking for all-weather, year-round sports facilities that are affordable and accessible you should have received our email with a short survey.  If you haven't, please get in touch with us now!

PLANS TO BUILD 3G ARTIFICIAL PITCH AT HODGE HOUSE

BBL Community Land Trust can confirm that it plans to develop a £1 million plus all-weather, 3G artificial grass pitch for the playing field at Hodge House.
Linked closely to the community centre, we're working to build a full-size pitch with fencing, lighting and changing rooms.  There's a long way to go to demonstrate that the development is viable and sustainable, but we know that by working with all of you in the local community and the local football community, we can have a really robust business plan.
